Christmas 2024 on Film

My wife and I lived in Boston for five years in the mid-90’s. We had a great time but the winters were just too much for us Californians, so we eventually moved back west. However, we still have some family in the area. They have been out to visit us a few times over the past several years, but it has been a while since we flew back to see them. So last year we committed to flying back east for Christmas.

It was quite the new experience for our girls. They had never experienced cold like Boston. When we landed it was 12°F. As our plane approached the gate at 12:30am, we were delayed because the jetway was frozen and couldn’t move. After waiting for the rental car shuttle, we finally got our car and arrived at our destination at 2:00am. After a long day of travel, we had finally made it.

The days leading up to Christmas were a bit hectic with shopping, wrapping, and mostly cooking. But by the time the extended family arrived on Christmas Day, all was well. The day was festive and it was fun having a chaotic holiday after so many with just our small family the last few years.

The day after Christmas, we drove our daughters to meet a friend of theirs north of the city. After dropping them off, my wife and I headed to Gloucester to see the Christmas Tree made from lobster pots. (All the color photos were taken with the Yashica T4 on Cinestill 800T film. On our way back, we parked under Quincy Market so that we could revisit one of the pubs we used to visit a lot when we lived there. The girls and their friends were already close by so they ended up meeting us after a while.

The next day we drove up to New Hampshire to stay with my niece for one night. She and her husband had moved out there a couple of years before and we were excited to get to see her house and spend time with them. Their house dates back to colonial times and is situated across the street from a graveyard where the original builder of their home is buried. Wild stuff.

By the time we got back to Boston the next day, we were pretty wiped. We ate dinner, packed up our things, and headed out to the airport the next morning at 5:00am. All-in-all it was a fun, yet exhausting, trip. We can’t wait to visit again, but next time in the spring or fall!
