Trying Out Kodak Vision3 250D Film

Shooting with Movie Film

Kodak Vision3 250D is a daylight film and is actually made for shooting motion pictures. In order to shoot it in your 35mm camera, you have to buy a canister of the film and then load it into 35mm cartridges yourself. Fortunately, there are many places that will do this for you. I picked mine up from a Facebook Film group I belong to. The admin bought a canister of the film and loaded up the cartridges himself and then sold them to other members. I had never really heard of the film before but thought I would give it a try.

Since it’s a movie film, it has what’s called a remjet layer which is a dark-colored protective coating used to reduce light piping, scratches, static, and halation. Before the film can be developed, this layer has to be removed. A lot of developing labs do not do this kind of processing, which is called an ECN-2 process. The lab I use, Brooktree Film Lab, happens to do it and even encourages use of the film.

Below are some pictures I took using a Canon EOS 3 in Folsom, Roseville, and Sacramento. After getting my film developed and scanned, I have to say, I’m in love with this film The colors are nice and bright and the grain is smooth as silk. I only have one more roll left but you can be sure I will be ordering some more.

Have you used Kodak Vision3 250D film? What did you think?
